As we discussed in our last post, exploring anal play can be new, exciting, and most of all-sensational! Since the anus cannot physically self-lubricate, lubricants for anal play are 100% necessary.
The skin of the anus and the delicate tissues inside the rectum can be prone to injury if not well lubricated during play. While we recommend using lubricant during any type of play, it is particularly necessary for anal. Here are a few of our favorite lubricant options for anal play.
Water-based lubricants for anal play are a great option when you may be using silicone toys or products. These lubricants tend to be thinner in consistency as well as friendlier for those with sensitive skin. While effective for anal play, please keep in mind water based lubricants absorb into the body and may require more frequent reapplication. They are compatible with all condoms and toys.
Appealing for its antibacterial properties, Intimate Earth Soothe is one of the best water-based lubricants for anal play due to its inclusion of Guava Bark Extract, a natural antibacterial agent. Although proper cleaning of the anus is ideal for anal play, the anus houses both good and bad bacteria. This lubricant can help protect against those.
The consistency of this lubricant is thick, but quick to absorb into the skin for a silky feel. It has a very light and refreshing plant-like smell, which is a wonderful touch. Praise to Intimate Earth using only natural ingredients!
Carrying the same antibacterial properties as Intimate Earth Soothe, Defense also incorporates Carrageenan and Tea Tree Oil for additional glide protection. Carrageenan and Tea Tree Oil do wonders for providing a calming sensation to both anal and vaginal stimulation. With the same consistency of Soothe, You may enjoy Defense for the soothing cooling effects from its ingredients.
It also has a lovely Tea Tree Oil smell that doesn’t interfere with intimacy. As for taste, this lubricant is completely edible and does not have any taste.
Silicone-Based Lubricants for Anal Play
For anal stimulation, a silicone lubricant may be preferable because it does not absorb quickly into the skin. It has a silky feel, and is made to withstand a longer duration of play than water-based lubricants, without reapplication. Silicone lubricants are compatible with all condoms, but should not be used with silicone toys.
Uberlube has been a doctor and industry favorite because of its incredibly thin consistency, yet durability. With a very slippery viscosity and velvety feel, Uberlube is meant to last through your play. It is unique in that it contains Vitamin E oil, making it incredibly nourishing for the skin. We even recommend it as a daily moisturizer for the vulva or penis. You can even apply a small amount to the hands and use it to tame frizz in your hair. We love versatility!
Uberlube has absolutely no smell or taste, although we do not recommend ingesting silicone lubricants.
Migliori differs from Uberlube by having a much thicker feel. This can be very appealing to those who want a thicker lubricant depending on their type of play or ability to lubricate (if vaginal). Incredibly nourishing to the skin, Migliori has vitamins E, D3, B6, and A.
A little goes a long way with Migliori, and it can be applied as needed. Migliori also has no taste or smell.
Oil-based lubricants are great natural lubricants that are nourishing for the skin while producing amazing glide. These lubricants are NOT compatible with latex condoms or silicone toys and should be avoided if you are using either.
A CBD dream, Privy Peach Coco Jambo is a heavy duty combination of CBD, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, and Coco Butter. This incredibly thick blend can be perfect for exploring anal play, while using coconut oil for its natural anti bacterial and anti fungal properties. With its high concentration of CBD (300mg), Coco Jambo is perfect for relaxing your tissues, promoting blood flow, and adding stimulation. Comfortable for play and incredibly nourishing to the skin, getting hempy is fun!
Coco Jambo smells like cannabis and coconuts–perfect for those who like an earthier scent. It tastes like coconut and a bit nutty, which adds great flavor should it be ingested (which it is safe to do so). Given that Coco Jambo is oil-based, it can either be firmer or more liquid depending on the temperature it is stored at. It may require a little mixing, but its worth it!
